A true belief in the Therapeutic Relationship
Judith M Bellaby MSc Counselling Psychology: MBACP Registered Member: Registered Member Association for Counselling & Therapy Online (ACTO)
My decision to train as a Counsellor was driven by my nursing back ground. Working as Registered Nurse in a busy NHS setting, I noticed how frequently patients wanted to share and gain a greater understanding regarding their experiences in relation to both their physical health and the relationship that has with our mental health and wellbeing. I wanted to be more able to help patients in gaining that understanding, to be able to help bridge that gap more effectively that was something much more than just ‘a chat’, My move towards the Counselling Profession in 2006 as I embarked on my Person Centred Counsellor Training seemed like a natural Segway for my career.
My experience as a Counsellor began in 2007, working as a trainee Counsellor for an NHS Staff Support Service. In 2010 I gained an MSc in Counselling Psychology and continued to work in a voluntary capacity as a qualified Counsellor within the NHS Staff Support Service until 2016.
I made the move to work in Private Practice in 2016, where I have continued to work with clients who present with a wide range of life challenges and questions.
Counselling can help you explore the things in life that you are not happy with; your life questions which might prompt you to seek counselling. It might seem like these are the same questions as others who seek counselling; for instance, you may be feeling unhappy about your health, a relationship, unsure about decisions that you need to make; however, though there may be similar themes for why people seek counselling, how therapy is experienced and worked through will always be individual and unique to you; Why? Well because it will be your own life experiences that have informed how you feel, think and respond to each situation that you encounter. As an example, if you were to ask several friends or relatives to help you with the same problem or question, you might receive a different answer from each of them; that’s because friends and relatives want to help you by offering advice, they are also answering your questions based upon their own experiences, their own personal life lens; As a Counsellor I believe you are your own expert on your life experiences and you have the answers to your life questions within you. My aim will be to be by your side as we work together with whatever brings you to counselling. To help you to become the person you believe you can be
